The comedian and member of the Monty Python comedy troupe, John Cleese celebrates his 72nd birthday on 27th October.
The star also known for his seminal role in the classic 1970’s Accurist watches advertisements, has recently toured with his one-man show entitled ‘The Alimony Tour’, and has seen a BBC Four drama based on the controversy surrounding the release of the movie ‘Life of Brian’.
‘Life of Brian’ attracted strong criticism from religious leaders at the time, but is now considered a classic movie.
The series of adverts for the Accurist watches brand still features in many lists of classic advertisements. Cleese made a number of adverts for the brand which were known as the ‘Accuankle ‘ adverts. Many of the short film were recorded in locations that were unusual for a jewellery brand such as boating lakes and football stadiums. The Accurist watches advert was so successful that it even reached the USA where it was cited as one of the ‘funniest’ advertisements of the 1970’s.
