Japanese manufacturer Citizen Watches has reported that watch buyers worldwide continue to be in a buoyant mood despite the slowdown in the general economy. The Tokyo based giant announced a record-breaking level of turnover for the month of January 2012 with unexpected growth coming from the UK marketplace.

The improved level of sales for the month that has traditionally lower levels follows on from the high level of sales experienced in the run up to Christmas.

According to reports in the current edition of Retail Jeweller magazine, Alan Mace, UK managing director for Citizen Watches has attributed the strong growth to the success of an advertising campaign that ran the previous month. The increase means that more than two million Citizen Watches have been sold over the last 10 years.

The UK success comes at a time of growing sales in the Middle East and Asia. With many more new models due for launch in the next few months, the future is looking bright for this watchmaker.
