The company behind Lacoste watches started in 1933 when tennis ace Rene Lacoste and knitwear manufacturer Andre Gillier took the traditional tennis uniform and created the tennis polo shirt that is still a crucial part of the tennis look today. Rene was known as ‘the crocodile’ and ensured his clothing was branded with the iconic crocodile logo.

The company is still a partner of the French tennis Open held at the iconic stadium of Roland Garros one of the prestigious Grand Slam tournaments. Its other major sporting interest is golf and ambassadors from both sports carry the values of the brand, including tennis hero Andy Roddick and top-ranking female golfer Lorena Ochoa.
For over 85 years the trademark has been a hit amongst active men and women around the world. In addition to footwear, the company is now an international manufacturer of footwear, fragrances and accessories The crocodile trademark has is now found on a range of sporty yet sophisticated watches and is a passport to a more luxurious sporting life.
The range of Lacoste watches were launched by the company in 1994. The sporting inspired designs are produced in Switzerland featuring genuine Swiss movements. Lacoste watches were launched at that year’s Basel International Watch Festival.
