Certina Watches from The Watch Hut
Since 1888 when the Kurth brothers first opened their movement and supplies factory for watchmakers, the Certina watches legacy has grown into the now international watch manufacturer. In 1906 the first wrist watches from the brand were made, but at this time they were under the name “Grana” which was short for “Granacus”, the Latin name for the area in Switzerland where the brothers were from, Grenchen.
From 1938 and 50 years after their original launch the brand was known as Certina, after a search by the directors of the company. “Certina” was also taken from Latin, but this time from the word “certus” which means “assured certain”, something that the directors wanted to get across about their watches which was not so specific to Switzerland.
