In 1875, a 23-year-old immigrant from Bohemia called Joseph Bulova set up shop in New York City. The tuning fork was powered by a one-transistor electronic oscillator circuit. More than 4 million were sold until Bulova Watches ceased production of the range in 1977 to be replaced with more sophisticated mechanisms.
