In 1946, working from premises in St John Street in London's Clerkenwell district, Asher and Rebecca Loftus established Accurist Watches with the intention of creating a watch brand name of lasting value. The Accurist watch name was thought up as a title to indicate to customers that the time piece on their wrists would be accurate, hence Accu(accurate) Rist(wrist). Like much of the competition at that time, Accurist Watches were made entirely from Swiss components. Accurist Watches could assure quality as a result of the Swiss mechanism used, whilst competitive pricing helped establish the reputation for value they still hold today. However, a watch was still seen to be a 'once in a lifetime' purchase. Accurist intended to change this by introducing fashion into watches.
